Dear Parents,

Year Two Trip to St Thomas’ Church in Worting

As well as our trip to Southsea next week, Year Two have another trip before the end of term! We are going to visit St Thomas’ Church in Worting on Tuesday 18th July. Our R.E. theme for the half term is ‘Special Places’ and we will be finding out why the Church is such a special place for Christians. We will have our lunch (hopefully!) outside in the sunshine and return to school for the usual pick up time of 3.00pm.

There is no cost associated with this trip.

The trip will take place during the school day. We will walk to St Thomas’ Church, leaving at 9.15am prompt and returning by the usual time of 3.00pm.  The children will be accompanied by their class teachers, other members of staff and additional adults, all of whom will be fully briefed about the planned learning experiences, all health and safety matters and our expectations of the children’s behaviour whilst out of school.  As on any other day, your points of contact for the day of the trip are the admin team in the Federation Admin Office.

All children need to wear their full school uniform for the trip with their red school sweatshirt or cardigan and a white logo top so that they are easily identifiable. Please ensure that they are wearing sensible walking shoes and that they bring a waterproof coat in case the weather is inclement. If the weather is predicted to be hot and sunny please send your child with a sun hat and also apply suncream before school that day. Every child will need to bring a backpack so enable them to easily carry their lunch, their coat and for somewhere to put their jumper if the weather is hot. This will mean the children can be hands-free for the walk to make it easier. If your child does not have a backpack, please speak to your child’s teacher.

On the day of the trip, all children can be provided with a packed lunch prepared by the school kitchen as part of the universal free school meal scheme. The packed lunch will include a bread roll with either a cheese, ham or tuna filling, a biscuit or cake, a piece of fruit and a drink. Please indicate on the reply slip below, which filling your child would prefer in their bread roll so we can inform the kitchen of the number of each filling required in advance. If you choose not to have a school packed lunch your child will need to bring his/her own packed lunch. Please do not send any glass bottles or containers, sweets or products that contain nuts.

In addition, Maggie Whitmore from St Thomas’ Church would like to provide each child with a cake on our arrival at the church. These are home-made by church members and last year they were lovely! Please can you indicate on the form below if you give permission for this and also indicate if your child has a food allergy so that the church can cater for his/her needs.

The children will not need any money for the day of the trip.

All forms (attached) must be received at the school by Monday 10th July 2017 at the latest.

Yours sincerely
